About Me
Over the past 20 years, I’ve had the privilege of working as a researcher and educator with the cultural patrimony of Inuit Nunangat (Inuit homelands throughout Canada). My work at Inuit Heritage Trust focuses on challenging the colonial policies embedded in Nunavut cultural heritage management and practice. This involves developing policies and procedures that prioritize Inuit concerns, increasing access to archaeological collections and data for Nunavut Inuit, and helping to building capacity among Inuit in the heritage sector.
I have designed, directed, supervised, and taken part in community-partnered archaeology projects across Inuit Nunangat and Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenland). I also bring nearly a decade of experience in cultural resource management, working on projects in Ireland, Australia, and Canada (Ontario).
I hold a Masters (MA) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Anthropology/Archaeology from the University of Toronto, and I completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at McGill University. While I’ve taught university-level archaeology and heritage courses, my focus has shifted towards providing learning opportunities in Nunavut. This includes leading archaeology field schools, facilitating cultural heritage workshops, and creating educational materials.
Currently, I’m working on a variety of projects and initiatives including leading the implementation of the Digitization Strategy for the Nunavut Collection that will return home to the Territory once the Nunavut Inuit Heritage Centre is open.
